Well I truly enjoyed my son's graduation day yesterday, it was full from morning till we fell into bed at night! The downside of all that celebrating, is the fact that I had to get up and go to work this morning, and then meet my friends for a run in the afternoon. I tried to come up with a valid excuse for not running with C and Marathon Mom, but couldn't think of something that didn't sound made up. Not that I would ever make up an excuse. We started out from Bridgeport and did our new loop that goes toward Helmers, past Heritage Park, and back toward Bridgeport. I felt like I had run a race just yesterday, I didn't have any energy in my legs at all. I knew it was bad when we were heading back toward Bridgeport and Marathon Mom picked up the pace. That is a clear indication that our pace is really slow and she is trying to pick it up enough to make it less embarrassing. I wouldn't mind so much having an off day, but the thought of running a 10K this weekend really has me freaked out! Today we ran just under 4 miles and it was all I could to finish, how am I going to go another 2 miles? I am really achy everywhere, and I am hoping that it is just the exhaustion dragging me down. I am going to try to get caught up on sleep, and hope for the best.

When we stopped at Heritage for water, I noticed that if we kept that pace up we would finish with over a 10 min/mi. pace and I just didn't like the sound of that. I know the first mile is all uphill and rather steep, but still the rest is pretty much all downhill. It was such an annoying run with all the back and forth because of the resurfacing of the streets.
Speaking of which, a friend of my husband called him this afternoon just to tell him that he saw me running in Bridgeport. He also told my husband that he saw me telling the guard off for not having the sidewalk/ramp fenced off if he didn't want people to step off onto the street. Just think what would have happened to my shoes if the tar was still wet! I think that really cut into my overall pace ;-)
As I was coming in to the final stretch and trying to drop my pace down, I was also thinking about this weekend's 10K and wondering how I'm going to be able to run 2 more miles at a faster pace. Then I remembered that I going to just try to relax and have fun. Easier said than done.
I am going to chalk today's run up to just being an "off" day. My right hip is hurting quite a bit, and I am hoping that a rest tomorrow will help. The security guard who told us not to run on the fresh asphalt was really nice to us! He was a little flirty with C telling her to have a wonderful run etc. I think he was just happy that we were nice when he asked us not to run there.
He never "asked" me not to run on the asphalt. That's my point! He waited until I was half way across the street before telling me I had to go around and then I had to turn around and go another way. I guess that's the price I paid for running ahead.
